Butter Chicken is a Delicious and Popular Dish known for its Rich and Creamy Tomato-Based Sauce. It's usually made with tender pieces of marinated chicken cooked in a flavorful sauce. Here's a classic butter chicken recipe for you to try:

 Ingredients:

For the chicken marinade:

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste (or minced ginger and garlic)
  • Salt to taste

For the butter chicken sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or ghee
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes or tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro (coriander leaves) for garnish
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, mix the yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, ground cumin, chili powder, ground turmeric, ginger-garlic paste, and salt. Add the chicken pieces and coat them well with the marinade. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour (or preferably overnight) to enhance the flavors.

  2. Cook the chicken: Heat the vegetable oil or ghee in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken pieces, and cook until they are browned and cooked through. Once done, remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside.

  3. Prepare the sauce: In the same pan, add more oil if needed, and sauté the chopped onion until it becomes translucent. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another minute until the raw aroma dissipates.

  4. Spice it up: Lower the heat and add ground cumin, garam masala, ground coriander, and chili powder to the onion mixture. Stir well and cook for a minute or two to release the flavors of the spices.

  5. Add tomatoes and cream: Pour in the diced tomatoes or tomato puree and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens and the tomatoes break down. Then, stir in the heavy cream and butter, mixing until the sauce is smooth and creamy.

  6. Blend the sauce (optional): For an even smoother consistency, you can transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until it reaches your desired texture. Be cautious when blending hot liquids; you may need to do it in batches or let it cool slightly before blending.

  7. Add the cooked chicken: Return the cooked chicken pieces to the pan with the sauce, and let them simmer together for a few minutes so the chicken absorbs the flavors of the sauce.

  8. Garnish and serve: Once the butter chicken is done, garnish it with chopped cilantro. Serve the butter chicken with steamed basmati rice or naan bread for a complete and delicious meal.

Enjoy your homemade butter chicken! It's sure to be a hit at your dining table.
